Stanton Prior Obituary

In Loving Memory

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Stanton Erle Prior, who left us on April 28, 2026 at the age of 97. Born on October 26, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio, Stanton was treasured by family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Stanton was a devoted spouse to Charlotte for seventy years, having married in February 1955. They were lifelong members of Glenwood United Methodist Church and he and Charlotte enjoyed deep friendships with those they had met while in youth group at church. He was an active church member, and served on many committees, and participated in many fundraising events, such as paper drives, pancake breakfasts, and the Fall Festival. In their retirement, he and Charlotte enjoyed traveling to Europe and Asia, and cruising to Alaska, through the Panama Canal, and down European rivers.

Stanton Prior is survived by his children James, Andrew (wife Kim), and Amy Kula (husband Lars), and grandchildren Lawrence and Graham Littler. He was predeceased by his wife Charlotte Ann Prior, his parents G. Graham Prior and Marie Rogers Prior, brother John Prior, brother Paul Prior, and sister Jane Prior Fauth. He also leaves behind many extended family and cherished friends. He was always ready with a helping hand and a “Dad” joke, and will be remembered for his thoughtfulness and ready smile.

As a child, he enjoyed spending summer vacations with his extended family at the Lancaster Methodist Camp Ground, and in his retirement, he bought a cottage there and was happy to help a neighbor or fix whatever needed fixing down at the Camp Ground. As a young man, Stanton honorably serviced his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Stanton was a retired Mechanical Engineer with a Professional Engineer license and spent most of his career working on institutional mechanical systems. He got a kick out of repairing and fixing things, especially washing machines and vacuum cleaners, and usually had a part for most anything. He had many interests, including astronomy, photography, tinkering in the garage, the Hilltop Historical Society, folding dollar bill origami shirts, and making tables out of scrap wood. He was really pleased when he could make something out of scraps or leftovers, and in his later years, his favorite pastime was making his Hogwash Soap and selling it at the Worthington Farmers Market every Saturday.

Visitation is scheduled for May 20, 2026, 4:00-7:00 pm at JERRY SPEARS FUNERAL HOME, 2693 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43204.
