Robert Day Spears Sr., age 74, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at his residence in Hilliard, OH. It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother and everyone's friend, has passed away and gotten his long awaited and well deserved trip to Heaven. He has brought so much joy to the world with his huge heart and caring smile. He was the absolute epitome of putting others before himself, and that was the only way he knew how to be. He was always willing to compliment people and tell them how great they are, and people knew he was genuinely wanting to make a difference in their lives. Loving, caring, considerate, selfless, kind and thoughtful were words everyone used to describe him, and as his family, those words always made us proud. Dad would truly give anyone the shirt off his back and he taught us more life lessons than he will ever know. We will miss his birthday song phone messages that he sang to everyone in his family as well as his incredible Christmas cheer at the holidays. Bob Sr was a 1966 graduate of Columbus West High School, he attended both Ohio University and Columbus Business University before going on to graduate from The Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He was the Executive Vice-President of The Jerry Spears Funeral Home for over 40 years, before his retirement. This was an occupation that he loved and his personality and caring way made him a one of a kind funeral director. He was a long standing member of Saint Cecilia Catholic Church and also attended Saint Brendan the Navigator. An avid golfer, he was a member at Hickory Hills Golf Club, Scioto Country Club and Oakhurst Country Club over the years. He excelled at both football and basketball in high school, playing both briefly in college. A community activist and supporter in the truest sense, he was involved with the Hilltop Business Association, the Hilltop Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and many other civic organizations throughout the years. Preceded in death by, parents, Jerry and Gracebelle Spears Jr. Survived by, loving wife of 51 years, Linda, children, Robert (Sarah) Spears Jr., Steven (Stacie) Spears and Elizabeth (Jeff) Alvis, grandchildren, who he incredibly adored, Sydney, Brady, Alissa, Murphy, Sawyer, Ryan, Maddie, Henry and Grace, brother, Jerry (Marsha) Spears III, sister, Stephanie Spears, sister in law, Kathy Ross, brothers in law, George and John Ross, Numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Funeral Mass, 10 AM Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church, 434 Norton Rd. Father Seth Keller, Celebrant. Interment Sunset Cemetery.
