Joan C. Schwarzell (85), a woman who loved her family more than anything, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022 in her residence. The world's greatest mother and grandmother gave generously like the giving tree even in death - getting little in return but still made happy by those who loved her. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was head cheerleader and shortstop in high school before marrying after graduation and raising three beautiful children. She volunteered at many school functions for her kids, then later worked as a patient care associate at Mt. Carmel Hospital for 10 years before retiring. As a PCA, they awarded her 29 times with spirit pins from patients singing her praises to the nurses and nurse managers. She cared deeply for others and did everything she could to ensure her patients were as happy and comfortable as possible.
Joan was a tremendous supporter of our troops and always made a point to express her appreciation when seeing a man or woman in uniform, saying hello and thanking them for their services. She donated monthly to the Wounded Warrior Project, always gave whatever cash she had to the homeless she walked by, and would even give you the shirt off her back if you asked for it.
She is survived by her two children, 3 grandchildren, and numerous lifelong friends. Joan did not want a funeral service; instead, she wanted others to remember all the wonderful memories they shared. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, in her honor: https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/default.aspx?tsid=10043&ovr_acv_id=5246.
And always, "Dance like nobody's watching; love like you've never been hurt. Sing like nobody's listening; live like it's heaven on earth." -Mark Twain
